The First Sewing Projects

I got myself a basic sewing machine for Christmas. Finally, after 30+ years, I was going to learn to sew on-my-own. I could always talk my mom into making me pretty much anything - even a Snow White costume, but I was ready to "leave the nest." So this Christmas I actually made some gifts for friends. I had a very creative idea, but I started small with a double-sided fringe blanket then a couple of basic guy-grillin' aprons.

And! I did not have any patterns at this point. The blanket was a yard-and-half of material, perfect throw blanket size. I just stiched up two sides, hemmed the top and bottom, cut fringes on the stitched sides, and wa-la! A blanket! The aprons...I had one to base it off of. SoI just folded it, laid it on the fabric fold and cut. Made pockets, hemmed the sides, and made the ties and neck loop. All together took me a couple of hours to figure one out. Easy!

Now for the creative experiments...I used a pattern for this Belle Apron...

And for this apron, my mom has a trick she does for the toille that makes the "poofies" adjustable.
Now, for the guys...Yes, there's a cape...and it's removable.

All-in-all, not too bad for my first projects. And my friends just loved them! Can't wait to get started on my very own Wonder Woman apron!

Kitchen Table Renovation

Ok, I admit it - this is an older project that is STILL not quite finished. But I took an older wrought iron outdoor patio set and converted it into my kitchen table and chairs. The glass top had gotten busted, so I was forced to make a decision and lo & behold, a kitchen table was born.

This is with the new board as a table-top.

I also replaced the old beige "pleather"-type material on the chairs with some rich-looking red, black and gold. The down-side to this material is I have cats who love these chairs. Time to try out that new Pledge product that removes cat hair.

I found some great floor tile on sale at Lowe's and then added the tile trim that comes pre-set on a webbing material. Great stuff! I also got some that could be cut into strips to put along the side of the board. Added some decorative tiles here-and-there, and voila! I only have grouting left to do.

Potential Project

Summer's here and I've been able to get in the pool a lot so far already. I'm looking forward to getting a few pounds off. Another thing I enjoy is to watch old movies - and I really like the fashions. So much so that I have been dreaming of trying to make my own bathing suit in the vintage style.

When I come up with the idea to branch out from my more daily life blog (Life is a Daring Adventure), I saved some of my old projects out of the boxes to post with first. Old projects, I mean from when I was little and in elementary school projects! The first picture - Heart with rainbow - was made at a VBS. That tells you how old it is. Back when you used clay and hardened it under the sun then painted it. This was the main part of a windchime, I've lost all but one of the little hearts that hang from the bottom.

Then these others: the bear was from my first home-ec class when they really made stuff, the clay head from 6th grade art class - got first prize for him, but he's lost his tongue over the years, then the basket from 5th grade art class. I think I stressed too much trying to get it straight and it just kept getting smaller at the top.

There's just so many different things I like to do nowadays, as well as many things I still want to learn to do, like jewelry-making. I hope to make this blog a place of creative variety for all my visitors. All little something for every creative junkie! And as my readers build, I plan to do giveaways just cause they're fun! So this makes 21 times of changing the blog design! I still have a couple of code-kinks to work out, but once that is done I think I have what I want. And I've been thinking of some really cool posts to start with!
